Hybrid Work Makes Amazon, Meta, Others Reevaluate Office Expansion Plans

Amazon.com Inc is pausing the construction of six new office buildings in Bellevue and Nashville to reevaluate the designs to suit hybrid work, the tech giant said on Friday… “The pandemic has significantly changed the way people work … Our offices are long-term investments and we want to make sure that we design them in a way that meets our employees’ needs in the future,” said John Schoettler, vice president of Global Real Estate and Facilities at Amazon.

With the global occurrence of Covid-19, the world has had to adjust to the way people work. More people are working from home than ever before, so why would there be plans for expanding offices if no one comes into the office? While many people are working from their office at home, the major companies are now having to adjust to the new “work life”. What exactly are companies doing to adjust to the new “normal”. Well for starters, rather than having in person meetings, zoom has become very popular to hold live video calls from anywhere in the world. While many big corporations seeing production at an all time high, even before the pandemic, the engineering teams have been engaged very strongly through the new process of transitioning to hybrid work.

A lot of people ask “how can I stay in touch with my coworkers if my company decides to switch to a hybrid work facility?” Well, fortunately there are many solutions that you can do at your house to stay connected. The first being purchasing a monitor or desk top that is capable of running multiple programs at once, as well as having a lot of storage so you are able to access programs such as word or PowerPoint. Next, test out your home internet connection. The last thing you want is not being able to communicate during a very important meeting via zoom because your internet is not capable of running multiple devices at once. Another thing to consider is to find a quiet place where you can work and take your calls from. If you are in a loud and distracting area you will not be able to focus on the task at hand.
